It’s not all singing and dancing for courier drivers on the build up to Christmas. With the heavy influx of parcels purchased ready for the festive period. Discounted events such as black Friday and Cyber Monday. All giving shoppers the incentive to purchase items at a discounted price from the comfort of their own home. Not to mention the weather conditions!!

The Weather

The weather as we have now experienced can make things much more difficult. Our courier drivers are out in all weathers come rain or shine, yet it is still our responsibility to ensure all your home deliveries are distributed. The ice and snow we had recently proved to be hard work, and slips and falls were inevitable. Treacherous road conditions and a rear wheeled drive van, made some of the deliveries even more fun!!

Couriers and Discounted Events

Black Friday is now the biggest shopping day/weekend of the year and has now become an international affair. From not being a national term until the 1990s, and finally reaching our shores 80 years ago, it has gone from strength to strength. Originating from the US, black Friday was used to refer to the 1800s stock market crash. Since then online shopping has grown, so retailers like amazon have also included cyber Monday – first heard of in 2005. A study carried out by the guardian confirmed that 94% of consumers were tempted by such promotions. As a result, sales grew by:

  • 76.91% for Amazon
  • 76.32% eBay
  • 8.73% google Shopping
  • Increased spend of £810 million in 2016

Overseas

Following on from these discounted days China decided to launch a ‘singles day’, which promoted sales of 2 million bras in one hour. Making a pile that would be three times higher than mount Everest!
